Diamond beach did not disappoint! Wooooowheee! ! It sure has been a way to kick off my 3 weekends in a row of SHOWS! First off the good stuff: this location was fucking cool. I’ve heard of it for awhile but I’m so cheesed about the new ownership. I really loved the layout- parking was awesome, the marina is fairly flat gravel from parking to the building and its grounds. It’s convenient but tucked away- it’s got a baller sound system and a beautiful tiki bar! Naomi was super kind to give me coveted indoor booth space- I didn’t get my vendor load in email and was feeling a bit more chaotic than usual. I packed lightly with my new set up and headed to what was supposed to be a BEAUTIFUL day at the Yinzer beach! I was thinking I’d be fine no matter where I was set, I didn’t bring a tent because I
1. Wasn’t sure where I was going to be placed and
2. Hate loading it. It’s a pain.
3. The weather was SUPPOSED to be be perfect and I had ample sunscreen.
Not so. On and off torrential rains all day which turned into a brutal thunderstorm. The crowd came in which I was fine with- more people! But my poor outdoor vendors? They got spanked by the storm. Lightning struck a parked boat outside and started a FIRE. The lightnight strike was SO loud and shook the sheet metal marina we were all hanging in- electricity and water EVERYWHERE- metal tracks running through the concrete floor of the marina made my brain spin- I was wearing rubber sandals but my head was not ok- “what was charged? Could something explode?”
Needless to say we are all fine, the fire department came and fortunately no one was hurt though I’m sure there were more than a few paper product casualties and destroyed VHS tapes. Sorry guys. Sales weren’t bad for a first time go and a rained out day.
Other vendors did comparable sales as I did so that was encouraging. I was also happy to see awesome people I rarely ever see- fellow rad ladies off the clock and catching up. It was a cool crowd and was just the right volume of people. I made myself champagne and topochico mimosas and brought my storm anxiety to an acceptable level.
Bill came to visit and brought my box of swag and sales tags I left at home. We had lunch together and afterwards went on a well over-due date. It was a pretty good day!
